This site is an example of the transformation of privately owned land that was kept as mowed lawn but has been turned into a combination of a pollinator meadow and organic food garden. Small personal activities like this, when done by increasing numbers of people, can have a significant impact on the local ecosystem. Simply keeping a site as mowed lawn provides almost no benefit to local plants and animals, uses a lot of water, and contributes to local air and water pollution through the use of chemicals, fertilizer and gas powered mowers.
